damn, had my first collapse case last night. It happened ard 10+ at a wedding.
The bloke, Chinese, 35 yrs old, history of heart problems, was drinking when he knows he shouldn't. when we got there, he already stopped breathing. The Defib pads were applied straight away, he was in VF. Shocked him abt 3 times, then he went into fine VF. commenced CPR and bagging. he was infused with adrenaline too. after 1 round of CPR, we loaded and left the scene. commenced CPR in the ambulance all the way to the hospital. Informed the hospital to stand by. When we arrived at TTSH, we were greeted by 2 staff nurses and we transported him straight away into the A&E. doctor was there with 3 nurses. i still continued CPR on him while the nurses bagged him and inserted a Lyringoscope and suction tube into him........etc etc. too late, he was gone.
35 years old...........
i can't imagine what his wife will go through. wonder if he has any kids. when i came out of the A&E, his group of friends from the wedding were already outside waiting. I couldn't look them in the eye for some reason or another. Also had to put on a brave front. Sigh, i kept thinking of the incident over and over again, wondering what went wrong. the problem is, nothing went wrong. we did everything correctly. it was his time to go. I'm sorry pal, we tried our best. May you rest in peace till HE comes.
mustn't get too affected by this. it's part of the job. on for more challenges tonight, 2nd night shift.
